Insanity Time Taken

Insanity workouts vary from the Fit Test which is around 17 minutes to the more usual 60 minute workout.

The Insanity workout is scheduled to last over 10 weeks with workouts on 6 days a week.

 

Insanity Results

Anyone who seriously works their way through the complete Insanity programme and combines this with healthy eating is going to see results. The calorie burn of the workout should result in at least a 2lb a week loss, doubling that from healthy eating alone. T25

Focus T25 is another high intensity workout from Shaun T and Beachbody. Each workout only takes 25 minutes so is ideal if
you are really short of time to fit exercise into your daily routine.

Shaun T who created both Insanity and T25 says that he has experimented with the Insanity workout to identify which elements give the most results and put these into a 25 minute format to deliver amazing results in a short time.

There are two main sets of workouts:

Alpha Cycle

  • CARDIO 25 minutes of high calorie-burning cardio workout.
  • SPEED 1.0 Another high calorie -burning, fast-paced workout.

T25 Time Taken

T25 workouts are specially designed to fit within 25 minutes for each workout.

The T25 workout is scheduled to last over 10 weeks with workouts on 5 days a week.

It can then be followed by the Gamma Cycle which lasts another 4 weeks.

 

T25 Results

As with Insanity, anyone who uses this T25 over the complete cycle and combines this with healthy eating WILL lose weight and will look much more toned and sculpted afterwards.

A person weighing 156 lbs and working out to maximum intensity could burn up to 380 calories in 25 minutes with T25. If this was done 5 days a week as the schedule asks then you would burn an extra 1900 calories in a week. Over the 10 weeks you should lose an extra 5 lbs over and above whatever your healthy diet led you to lose.

For someone weighing 200lbs that would be 490 calories a day, 2460 a week and an exercise weight loss of around 7 lbs for a 25 minute session over ten weeks or 14 lbs with a double workout.

If you did the Gamma also with a weight loss diet the potential over the full 14 weeks workout of 25 minutes would be:

  • at 156lbs start weight would be 27 lbs and
  • at 200 lbs start weight would be 38 lbs

But this is not taking account of the afterburn effect.

Both Insanity and T25 make use of the After-burn Effect.

A continuous cardio exercise may burn the same amount of calories at the time as a high intensity interval training – but the body continues to burn more calories after each interval of exercise so the end result is a higher calorie burn in total.

To achieve this you have to train at 80% to 90% of maximum heart rate. This is very hard to do and can only be kept up for a very short period. But if you train for short periods then have even shorter periods of resting the after-burn is maximised.

And don’t forget this is only 25 minutes a day! People who do have the extra time to spend often do two T25 workouts back to back so bringing the weight loss from exercise alone up to at least 10 lbs over the 10 weeks.

 

 

And , of course, after all that exercise you would be toned and fit and would look as though you had lost much more weight than that.

P90

 

P90 has been around a while now and Beach body have released four different versions:

  1. P90X – the original version
  2. P90X2
  3. P90 – a gentler version with out the X for Extreme
  4. P90X3

P90X – the original one

PX90 stands for Power 90 Extreme and the 90 denotes that it is designed for 90 days of workouts. It is a very intense workout plan combined with a nutrition and supplementation plan. You also get a detailed fitness guide, a calendar and tracking worksheets

P90X Nutrition

This is a similar approach to the New Atkins diet.

The P90X Nutrition Plan starts with a high protein phase to shed fat and water. This also builds muscles.

Phase 2 – P90X Energy Booster

Adding in more carbohydrates to achieve a balanced mix of carbohydrates and protein, with less of fat.

 

Phase 3 – P90X Endurance Maximizer

This is a longer lasting healthy eating plan centered around complex carbohydrates and lean proteins.

 

P90X Time Taken

Most of the workouts start with 10 to 15 minutes of warm-up followed by around 45 minutes of hard exercising. The Yoga workout takes around 90 minutes whilst the Ab ripper workout is only around 20 minutes. It is designed to last 90 days in total with workouts 6 days a week.

 

P90X Results

The workouts in P90X use a lot of calories so if you stick with it and go through the whole program and combine it with their nutrition plan you undoubtedly WILL lose weight!

 

Someone weighing around 156lbs will use between 500 to 700 calories each workout if they are exercising intensely. Over 90 days with workouts 6 days a week this should result in about an extra 1lb loss a week from exercise plus probably 2lbs a week from diet. Over the three months of the programme this would be a total weight loss of 36lbs.

Someone weighing around 200lbs will use between 700 to 900 calories each workout if they are exercising intensely. Over 90 days with workouts 6 days a week this should result in about an extra 1.5lb loss a week from exercise plus probably 2lbs a week from diet. Over the three months of the program this would be a total weight loss of 42lbs.

 

Because P90X is also designed to sculpt and tone your body and to build muscle you will probably look as though you have lost a lot more weight than you actually have.

P90X2 claims to deliver greater results than P90X – not by making you work harder but by making you work smarter.

It uses muscle integration. You perform resistance moves on one foot, a ball or some other unstable platform. Your body has to maintain stability so is forced to use many more muscles at the same time with each movement. This means you are exercising your entire body at once and burning many more calories this way.

P90X2 builds on the principles of P90X and focuses on agility, balance, and mobility to produce visible results.

Most of the workouts are around an hour in length whilst the Ab ripper workout is only around 20 minutes. It is designed to last 90 days in total with workouts 6 days a week. There is more flexibility in the schedule for P90X2 than the original. The Foundation stage can last from 3 to 6 weeks depending on what you need. It also allows you to take a “recovery week” when you need to.

P90X2 Results

The originator, Tony Horton says this will give better results, faster than the original P90X because muscle integration causes you to use many more muscles for each exercise. This will make you look more toned and will build muscle faster than the original workouts. Unless you burn more calories with this system you will not lose any more weight. Results using workouts and careful eating plans will be impressive.

How does Insanity work and what results can you expect?

  • Insanity is a very energetic cardio based programme.
  • It’s a total body interval training workout using the max interval technique devised by Shaun T.
  • The Insanity schedule involves a rigorous six days of exercise per week.
  • Insanity uses no equipment except DVDs so it is easy to use anywhere that you can play the DVDs and can be cheaper than joining a gym or club as you can easily do it at home.

Maximum Interval Training

The Insanity workouts are based on Maximum Interval Training.

Usually in interval training you exercise moderately and intersperse that with short bursts of much harder exercise. Shaun T turns this method on its head by having you work extremely hard for 3-minute intervals, separated by short 30-second periods of rest.

The After-burn Effect

An insanity workout also makes use of the After-burn Effect.

A continuous cardio exercise may burn the same amount of calories at the time as a high intensity interval training – but the body continues to burn more calories after each interval of exercise so the end result is a higher calorie burn in total.

To get this effect you have to train at 80% to 90% of maximum heart rate.

This is very hard to do and can only be kept up for a very short period.

But if you have short periods doing that and even shorter periods of resting then the after-burn is maximised.

Muscle Confusion

This has been misrepresented in much of the media and consequently it has been dismissed as rubbish by many people.

The concept is that you train in targeted cycles that keep your body from getting too used to the workout.

This means your performance and results do not plateau to any great extent and you keep improving performance and getting great results.

The insanity schedule is planned so that in each block you are doing things your body is not familiar with so it has to learn how to do them.

When your body gets used to a workout it improves even more rapidly for a short time as your really master the moves.

After that you get used to doing it and performance and results plateau.

Most research indicates that this plateau happens after about 3 weeks – so that is why insanity is based around 3 weeks of hard activity then a week of recovery.

After that the workouts change, introducing harder and unfamiliar ones so the body has to learn again for three weeks, followed by another week of recovery.

What about the insane body?

Calories are a measure of energy.

Your body uses energy all the time – even when you are asleep – breathing, circulating blood around you, digesting food – all of these use energy before you even start moving around.

To lose weight you need to use up more energy than you take in as food. This difference is known as the calorie deficit. And in order to lose 1lb of fat you need to use approximately 3500 calories more than you eat.

To keep their weight constant with normal activity the average man needs to eat 2500 calories a day and the average woman 2000.

These are only AVERAGES and do vary depending on lifestyle and normal levels of activity.

MEN

Unless under medical supervision, it is not recommended that men reduce their calorie intake under 1800 calories a day and for women not under 1200.

Most weight loss diets will allow you to lose up to 2lbs a week and that is recommended as a safe weight loss from dieting.

The other way to create a greater deficit is to be more active and burn more calories.

So – if you use an extra 1000 calories a day for 6 days that gives an extra deficit per week of 6000.

If you also walk a bit more, use the stairs instead of the elevator and generally stay more active then it is entirely possible that you could double the normal highest expected weight loss on a diet from 2lb a week to 4lb a week.

That would be a weight loss of 32lbs in the 60 days of the Insanity routine.

But in addition to that your muscles are being toned and strengthened so it is possible that you will look as though you have lost much more than that!

If your question is Does Insanity work? then the answer is unequivocally – Yes if you do!

If you keep to any sort of genuinely healthy eating routine and perform the Insanity workouts as laid down by Shaun T regularly and as intensely as you are able then you will see real results.

How Long does it take to get Insanity Results?

The Insanity programme is designed to take 60 days.

If you’ve read the information above about Muscle Confusion you’ll know that research indicates that a plateau happens after about 3 weeks – workouts that achieved real results suddenly do not give those results anymore – so that is why insanity is based around 3 weeks of hard activity then a week of recovery.

After that week of recovery the Insanity programme moves up a gear (or several) to keep you seeing the results you want.

So for MAXIMUM EFFECT you need to stick with Insanity for at least 60 days.

Shaun T’s Insanity Workout Schedule

 

Many people do not just do one cycle of Insanity but repeat it two, three or more times.

But that doesn’t mean it will take 60 days before you begin to see results.

If you look at the Insanity workout schedule you will see that you do a fit test on day 1, first day of weeks 3, 5 and 7 and on the final day. This tests how many reps of the various moves you can do and how you feel after doing it. Each time you repeat a fit test you will see an improvement – this tells you that Insanity results are happening – you are getting fitter.

Most users report that they saw big results in month 2 with only small changes in month 1. This does not mean that changes are not happening in month 1 – just that they become much more visible , both on the scales and in the mirror, in month 2.

2 Are Insanity Results pictures genuine?

Another question people ask is “are the results I see on the internet real?” and that is a much more difficult question to answer.

We all know about photo-shop and how pictures can be touched up, air-brushed or just completely faked! It can be very hard to tell if a photo is genuine.

See how on day 1 her shoulders are slumped, her head forwards and this pushes her stomach out. I am definitely NOT saying her results are not real – just that day one would look better if she stood as proudly as she does on day 60!

Similarly with this man – he looks much better in picture 2 and has clearly been working hard – but his shoulders are back and this immediately opens his chest out making the improvement look even greater. The tan helps too! Still a great result though!!

On the whole I think most of the pictures are genuine attempts to show off great results – you just have to look at them critically to decide just HOW great – and if they seem unbelievable then maybe look at some others instead which you can believe and get some motivation from.

 

 

Are Insanity results lasting?

Well, I can promise that if you go back to eating and exercising just the way you did before then your body will go back to just how it was before too. (Remember that insanity has been defined as doing the same thing and expecting a different result!).

If you want to stay trim, toned and healthy then you need to make diet and exercise changes that support you.

Very often people do another kind of exercise workout after they finish Insanity – maybe P90X, T25 or something completely different. Very many of them go back for a second, third or more cycles of Insanity with a break in between.

Some take up a different fitness regimen and it all depends on what your long term goals are. If you want to build muscle then weight lifting is a natural progression. For others it will be something like running or swimming.

If you maintain some kind of exercise routine and healthy diet then the changes you noticed from your Insanity workout will be lasting – it is up to you.

Will insanity help with changing body fat percentages or building muscle?

A workout as intensive as Insanity will burn off fat and help to build muscle.

Getting rid of fat depends on calorie deficit and in order to lose 1lb of fat you need to use approximately 3500 calories more than you eat. The Insanity workout – if done really intensively – can burn around 1000 calories in the session. So – if you use an extra 1000 calories a day for 6 days that gives an extra deficit per week of 6000. This is definitely going to change your body fat percentages.

It is also physically taxing and forces the muscles to develop as a result of the work they are doing.

Alongside this development you will see much greater muscle definition – as you lose fat the muscles will look more sculpted and appear athletic. Men will notice muscle building more than women because the different hormones mean that muscles respond differently. Both will notice that their legs look more toned, longer and leaner.

Muscle building takes time but if you repeat the Insanity cycle you will notice more and more of this happening.

How Much Is Insanity ?

 

Once you have looked at Insanity results the next question most people ask is “How much does Insanity cost?”

It can look at first as though the Insanity discs are expensive – the Basic kit is around $145 and the deluxe around insanity-calories-deluxe*$280. But that is almost all you will need.

  • Insanity uses no equipment except DVDs and most people already own a DVD player and TV to watch them on
  • You need good sports shoes and a great deal of motivation and will power!
